Ocean Visuals’ offshore field trials with Petrobras have been highlighted by Offshore Magazine, focusing on real-time hydrocarbon detection and the reduction of false alarms during offshore monitoring operations.

The article outlines how hyperspectral laser-induced fluorescence (HLIF) LiDAR technology was evaluated during offshore field trials, demonstrating the ability to detect and classify hydrocarbons in real time, supporting faster verification of suspected oil observations compared with traditional monitoring methods.
"By removing the dependency on laboratory analysis, molecular-level detection can significantly shorten the time between detection and operational decision-making,” said Fredrik Bekkmo, US Representative, Ocean Visuals during the Offshore Magazine interview.
The feature also discusses how real-time data integration into operational workflows can improve situational awareness and reduce reliance on laboratory analysis during offshore spill response.
About Offshore Magazine
Offshore Magazine is a leading international trade publication covering offshore oil and gas engineering, technology, and operations, with a strong focus on innovation, safety, and environmental performance across global offshore markets.

“The operational use of this technology has the potential to improve the verification of suspicious oil features, the detection of oil in the water column, reducing the need for conventional laboratory analysis.”
